My Why
Ubuntu (/ʊˈbuːntʊ/ uu-boon-tuu; Zulu pronunciation: [ùɓúntʼú])[1][2] is a Nguni Bantu term roughly translating to “human kindness.”[dubious ] It is an idea from the Southern African region which means literally “human-ness”, and is often translated as “humanity towards others”, but is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity”.[3]
A We Thing
I thought it might be important to tell the story of why I created this website and organization, for lack of a better word. The website’s purpose is to serve as a portal to all the good things I want to do for our community. But I know it isn’t just “I” that will make this possible. This is a “we” thing. I can’t do this without you.
Project Giving Back
So “Project Giving Back” is the name of my umbrella, and even though I created it, it belongs to us. As I walk down this path, I want your input and ideas of how we can make a bigger impact. I want to use my vocation as a avenue to give back. I want to use my talents and love to organize as a way for us to give back. Being passionate about something is the key to happiness these days, and why not use that passion to help others. How could you use your vocation, talents and passions to contribute to our community?
Past & Present
I am proud to call this community my home. I have moved over 60 times in my whole life. I could elaborate on this story, but that is probably best left for another day. Just to summarize.. I was born in Houston and have been in the ‘Greater Houston Area’ since I was 17, but I grew up mostly in Kansas. I lived in Clearlake for a couple years, then Spring for a five years, then Katy for five, and I have once again found my home in Spring. I love it here, and we are raising our family here.
Future
The future of our community and those communities around us, is held without on our hands. As a wise man once said..
The best way to predict the future is to create it.Abraham Lincoln
So, I propose that we do something great together. Let Project Giving Back be a stepping stone to the next great idea.
